字首 in- 可表示「無；相反；沒有」等否定意思，與字首 de-、dis-、non-、un- 皆用來表示否定。其後的字母為 b、m、p 時，in- 會同化為 im-，為l 時同化為 il-，為 r 時則同化為 ir-。
