字首 fore- 表示「先；早」的意思，可以指時間、空間位置或情況。fore- 也帶有「較優異」的意思，如：foreman 就是指「領班；工頭」。英文中有些字首為 for- 的字亦源自此字源，如：forward（向前；前進的）。
