-ics 用來表示「學說；知識」，常見於某些科學或系統等名詞字尾。也可用來表示「具有某種獨特的活動、特質、職業」等。這些名詞要搭配單數動詞。

mechanics n. 機械學；力學；製作技巧
My dad can spend hours explaining the mechanics of sailing a boat.
我父親可以花好幾個小時解釋行船的技巧。
physics n. 物理學
提醒：physic 在希臘文中表示「自然科學」，現在英文中已無此義
