bi- 指「二；雙」，而 bin- 源自 bi- 的副詞 bini-，表示「兩兩；兩倍」。由於 bi- 可用來指「每兩……發生一次」或「兩次」，比如 bimonthly 可指「每兩個月一次」和「每個月兩次」，為避免造成混淆，欲表示「每個月兩次」時，可用 semi-（一半）來代替。
